James, a solicitor by profession, is one of our Directors. He restored his first car (a mini) aged 15 and worked at a leading Jaguar restoration business after leaving school. During university he undertook evening classes in welding and fabrication. He has substantial mechanical expertise on a range of classic vehicles including Austin Healeys, MGs, Jaguars, Range Rovers and TVRs. He also sources and maintains classic and performance vehicles for clients across the south of England via our classic car consultancy business Charles Russell Classic Cars.
Vicky is our Manager. She has a strong background in retail and before joining us had been a manager at a well known supermarket chain. She keeps the garage running efficiently and is very good at tracking down elusive parts and chasing suppliers. Vicky’s father worked with John Coombs, the famous British racing car driver and Jaguar specialist, so she has petrol in the blood! Vicky’s father contracts for us on certain classic car work, in particular classic jaguars.
Jan is our part time receptionist. She is a huge Triumph fan and fondly recalls challenging MGs in her Triumph Spitfire. She brings a huge amount of energy and enthusiasm to the team. But woebetide you if you take any of her coloured pens. In particular the pink one.
Dewi is a classic car technician and also our Workshop Manager for classic cars. Dewi is a qualified electrical and mechanical engineer who worked as a technician on helicopters during his time with the army. Before joining us he worked as an engineer with a well known local industrial firm. He has worked on classics since a boy (he recalls changing gearboxes aged 9!) and maintains a diverse collection of cars and motorbikes ranging from a 1930s Rapier, through a 70s TVR to a 1990s Mini. He also has race and motorport experience. A longstanding friend and customer of the garage we are delighted that after years of gentle persuasion he agreed to join the team in 2017!
Shep is a classic car technician and the most experienced member of the team. During his early career Shep trained and worked predominantly on Jaguar, Triumph and Rover cars and so has first hand experience of these vehicles from the first time around. More recently Shep spent 10 years working with Reeders Performance and Specialist Cars, working on a wide range of classics, including exotics. Shep has substantial track and race preparation expertise and is widely known and respected within the trade and local area. Shep is also a very experienced MOT tester.
Macaulay has been working for us under a formal apprenticeship programme for two years. He is studying for his Level 3 technical qualifications at Andover technical college. There is a strong mechanical tradition in his family and his grandfather maintained the bus fleet at Figheldean (now Tourist coaches). He is doing an excellent job and is a real asset to the team.
Pete contracts for us as a supply MOT tester and also a technician with considerable experience. He is very capable on both modern and classic vehicles and has an interest in classic motorsport, where he regularly scrutineers vehicles at race meetings. Pete has been a member of the extended team since 2015 and works both at our workshops and also from his nearby premises in Larkhill.
Greg contracts for us on engine rebuild work, particularly Jaguar XK engines. Greg trained with the REME and worked for a number of years with Sigma Engineering (widely regarded as the best engine builders in their field) preparing classic jaguar racing cars. As with Pete, he shares a love of classic motorsport. Greg has over 25 years experience in the trade since leaving the army and has built some of the most successful competition engines for historic jaguar race-cars. He is also very experienced with Motor Bikes.
